Significant strombolian activity observed early yesterday morning at Villarrica.
At 01.36 am local time yesterday, the continued strombolian activity at Villarrica produced a lava fountain which reached 100 m above the crater rim, over double the height of the most recent fountains oberserved on February 8th and 9th. The lava settled on the southwest upper flank.
Strombolian activity at Villarrica is frequent, with four lava fountain occurrences so far this month. The estimated impact radius of the continued strombolian activity currently lies at 1 km. The volcano remains in yellow alert, the second lowest of a four colour scale.
