Semisopochnoi volcano (Aleutian Islands): activity resumed, alert status raised to Orange

The Alaska Volcano Observatory raised the alert level to „Orange“, as the eruptive activity renewed over the past 24 hours.
Minor ash deposits have been registered on the snow-covered flanks of the north crater of Mount Cerberus, at about 1 km distance from the vent.

No ash plumes have been observed in the web camera or satellite imagery, but sustained ash plumes have continued to rise up to 5,000 ft altitude carrying volcanic ash within it.
The AVO continues: „Small eruptions producing minor ash deposits within the vicinity of the active north crater of Mount Cerberus and ash clouds usually under 10,000 ft (3 km) above sea level have characterized the recent activity and more ash-producing events could occur again with little warning. Semisopochnoi volcano is monitored by local seismic and infrasound sensors, satellite data, web cameras, and regional infrasound and lightning networks.“
