White Island (New Zealand): (21 Sep) The GeoNet webcam, installed on the North Rim, detected minor ash emissions from the crater on 18 September.
The color of ash was light brown and rose about 600 meters above the crater. The gas plume track was recorded by TROPOMI satellite and could be seen from the Bay of Plenty coast as well. The most likely explanation refers to a small magma intrusion that was injected into shallow levels of the volcano. However, the lack of real-time seismic and acoustic data on 18 September prevents scientists from being informed if an eruption occurred at the time.
