The Tonga Geological Services (TGS) reported that a new submarine eruption at the volcano started on 10 September at 01:39 local time judging from a gas column detected in satellite images.

The ongoing submarine activity resulted to form of a new volcano island at 12:59 PM local time with a diameter of about 70 meters emerging approx. 10 meters above sea level.

Gas emissions rose about 1 km above the sea.
A thermal anomaly has been detected in a satellite image on 13 September.

The Aviation Color Code was raised to Yellow. Mariners are advised to stay 5 km away from the volcano.
