For almost three weeks heavy rainfalls have been affecting the upper edifice area resulting in mudflows (so-called lahars.)
The reason for these flows is remobilization of loose volcanic material from recent eruptions to generate moderate-to-strong mudflows down along the Barranca Ceniza chute and Achíguate river which may in turn develop into dangerous lahars. Precautions must be taken, especially for the zone of Ceniza and Platanares rivers threaten by overflowing itself.
