Ambrym volcano (Vanuatu): Volcanic Alert Level lowered to Level 1

The alert status for the volcano was lowered to „Level 1“, as the activity rapidly decreased after the intense phase from Benbow crater at the end of January 2021.

A night-time glow and gas and steam emissions in the crater have stopped to disappear since early February.

In addition, the seismic activity has continued at low-levels.

The current hazards remain in the crater area and at the Southeast part of the edifice. The observatory reminds people that eruptions can occur with little or without warning.
