Strombolian explosion at Yasur volcano today (image: VMGD)
Sporadic activity at the volcano continues.
A minor strombolian eruption occurred at about 13:15 local time today producing dense ash emissions from the summit vent. An ash plume reached 3,000 ft (900 m) altitude and dispersed towards the SE.
A satellite image from yesterday shows visible summit glow and gas emissions suggesting rise of fresh juvenile magma in the conduit.
The Volcanic Alert Level remains at Level 2. The public was reminded not to enter the restricted area within 600 m around the cone, defined by Danger Zone A on the hazard map.
