The Servicio Geológico Colombiano (SGC) surveillance cameras installed in the Manizales and vicinity of the volcano observed a powerful eruption on 11 April at 17:13 local time.

The explosion followed an elevated fluid movement of gas, water and possibly magma within the ground that preceded the event. The eruption was stronger than the average size of eruptions at the volcano. Such events are nothing unusual and occur from time to time.
The volcano sent an ash column to 28,000 ft (8,500 m) height.

The alert status for the volcano remains at „yellow“.
