A stunning strombolian-type explosion took place from the volcano at about 05:00 local time yesterday.

The eruption sent hot, glowing lava clasts (scoria) tracing parabolic ballistic paths and showered the most edifice with ejected basaltic pyroclasts.

Weak-to-moderate explosions continue at regular intervals of 5 to 8 per hour generating grey ash plumes which reached approx. 14,700 ft-15,700 ft (4,500 m-4,800 m) altitude. Ash plumes spread about 30 km to the west-southwest of the volcano.
