The extrusive eruption at the volcano continues at high levels.
Merapi-type pyroclastic density currents continue to descend over the western and northwestern slopes of the Caliente dome up to the base of the edifice over the past few days. Collapsing parts of currents triggered moderate-to-strong avalanches at about 1-3 km distance from the summit that lifted 600-800 m high ash plumes (so-called phoenix clouds). Block-and-ash flows are associated with gravitational collapse of lava domes and flows. Volcanic ash is dispersed towards the west and northwest and caused light-to-moderate ash fall in San Martin Sacatepéquez, Llanos del Pinal and Quetzaltenango.
Incandescence continues to be observed in the summit crater.
The near-frequent and abundant degassing continues to produce steam-laden plumes which rose approx. 150 meters above the crater.
