Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan): (29 Jan) A powerful explosion occurred at the volcano from its Aira caldera at 13:19 local time today.
The eruption generated a dense dark ash plume, which reached approx. 7,000 ft (2,100 m) altitude and sent lava bombs 300 meters away from the crater, some of the lava bombs reached distances greater than 1,5 km. The plume contained a high amount of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.

A 150 m long lava flow on the S-SW slope continues to descend on the Ceniza gully. Collapsing parts of the flow front generated constant incandescent avalanches towards the Ceniza and Trinidad ravines.
