Map of today’s active volcanoes

Grímsvötn (Iceland): The glacial flood (jökulhlaup) from Grímsvötn volcano has started. Meltwater has made its way under the glacier to its exit at the Gígjukvísl outlet river, whose water levels are now quickly increasing and were at approx. 1200 cubic meters per second earlier today. Scientists expect the flood to go on for days and reach its maximum in 4-6 days at values of around 4,000 cubic meters per second.
The modeled water discharge rate to release a total of about 1 cubic kilometer can be seen in this embedded graph:

Worries the flood might trigger volcanic eruption

La Palma (Canary Islands (Spain)): After the surge of magma during the past days, the activity has now dropped again significantly, but there is a new signal of ground uplift, which suggests that a new batch of magma is on the rise and currently being stored and likely to come out as a new surge probably in the next days… There is certainly no sign of the eruption ending soon.
Even if it has been gradually decreasing today, the explosive and effusive activity from the new (as well, to a lesser extent from the old) vents are continuing. Volcanic tremor remains comparably high and has strong temporary peaks, indicating magma flux remains significant.
