A moderately large pyroclastic flow descended from the volcano’s active lava dome on its SW flank this morning at 6.43 am local time. The event lasted 161 seconds and the flow reached a length of 2500 m, our local correspondent Andi Rosadi reported on facebook.
Overall, the intensity of the eruption continues to gradually increase, and is clearly becoming more dangerous. Merapi has been at the second highest alert level III („Siaga“) on the Indonesian scale ranging from 1-4 since 5 November 2020.
