Stromboli volcano with the lava flow early this morning (image: LGS webcam)
The lava flow on the upper half of the Sciara del Fuoco remains active with very little visible changes in activity since yesterday overall. Apparently, lava effusion rates are stable for the moment and high enough to maintain the lava flow reaching about 400-500 m elevation, i.e. half way down to the sea.
Frequent small rockfalls from the margins and front of the flow occur, whirling up dust trails. Spattering and intermittent strombolian-type explosions can be seen from several of the summit vents.
The overall volcanic activity index for the volcano remains „high“.
