According to PVMBG the alert level for the volcano was raised to „orange“, as an increase of volcanic activity has been recorded at 13:00 local time today.
A new eruption started at Raung volcano at about 05:20 local time today as an continuous emissions of water vapor, gases and grey ash have emitted from the summit vent that reached up to 12,130 ft (3,733 m) altitude.
Seismic instruments recorded deep volcano-tectonic earthquake accompanied by volcanic tremor. Quake might be related as a response to the new eruption likely caused by surge of magma rising inside the volcano’s conduits.
During July-October last year the series of explosions occurred at the volcano when ash-sized pyroclastic material covered the area of the summit crater.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.
