Mauna Kea (United States, Hawaiian Islands): The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) reported that the seismic network recorded a volcano-tectonic earthquake with magnitude M 4.4 at 25 km depth beneath the northwest flank of the volcano starting around 09:27 local time on 14 Dec morning. The earthquake was centered about 20 km southeast of Waimea.
Strong shaking, with maximum intensity of VI, has been reported across the Island of Hawai‘i. The earthquake was reported felt over most of the Island of Hawai‘i. The northwest flank of Mauna Kea has experienced only 9 earthquakes greater than magnitude-4.0, within the past 60 years.
