Santiaguito volcano (Guatemala): moderate-to-strong degassing continues

After the moderate-to-strong pyroclastic flows as we reported in the last update, fumarolic activity continues to be observed characterized by moderate-to-strong near-constant degassing as can be seen in the image. Gas-steam plumes containing some amount of ash rose 1,640 ft (500 m) above the summit and drifted W-SW.
Weak vulcanian activity continues from the summit vent producing ash plumes that rose to estimated 10,826 ft (3,300 m) altitude. Much of the ejected material slid down along the SW flank and generated weak-to-moderate avalanches.
