Etna volcano (Italy): new lava flows from summit area

Two lava flows started at the volcano yesterday: the first originated from the Vorgine summit crater itself, which started during yesterday’s lava fountaining episode and was spilling from the Voragine crater into the neighboring Northeast Crater, similar to the events a week earlier.
The second lava flow, also similar to what had happened 8 days ago, originated from a fissure vent that opened around 09:30 local time yesterday morning in Valle del Leone at an elevation of approximately 2750 m, feeding lava flows whose fronts moved past Monte Simone in Valle del Bove, reaching an elevation of approximately 2000 m by yesterday afternoon. As of today (8 Aug 2026), it seems to be still weakly active, while explosive activity at the summit craters has decreased. Tremor amplitude remains fluctuating at high levels.
The fountaining activity yesterday resulted in ash fallout sampled at Adrano, Ragalna, Piano Vetore, and Nicolosi.
