KVERT has raised the Aviation Colour Code to Red this morning after a new strong explosion. This is typical of Sheveluch, particularly during the current episode of significant dome growth.

Bright glow can be seen from the crater area during night time, indicating that it is currently erupting. Most likely, this activity consists of intermittent, mild strombolian explosions from the Ontake crater. The rarely visited volcano is known for its semi-persistent strombolian activity that has been going on for many decades.
