Vegan Ice Cream Cakes Are Here! Here’s Where You Can Find Carvel’s Oat Milk Flavors

Birthday parties just became a little more fun! Ice cream chain Carvel has launched two flavors of vegan ice cream cakes, available exclusively at Publix. Although tons of creamy vegan frozen treats are available in grocery stores, these are the first ice cream cakes to hit the market.

Choosing nondairy treats helps spare loving, playful cows who are used for their milk. Instead of allowing mother cows to nurse their own babies, the dairy industry tears calves away from their mothers shortly after birth—workers then steal their milk so that they can sell it. This cycle of abuse is nothing to celebrate, which is why we’re happy to see that brands like Carvel offer oat milk–based treats for compassionate consumers.

Carvel’s vegan ice cream cakes come in two flavors:

The Oat Milk Non-Dairy Double Chocolate Frozen Dessert Cake features a rich chocolate fudge ripple, topped with whipped icing and a chocolate drizzle.

The Oat Milk Non-Dairy Strawberry Raspberry Frozen Dessert Cake is made with a strawberry-flavored oat milk base, which is swirled with a raspberry ripple, topped with whipped icing, and finished with a raspberry drizzle.

Both are delicious, easy options that you can share with friends and family at your next celebration.

If these tasty treats aren’t available near you (yet), don’t fret. Your local grocery chain is sure to carry a variety of cow-friendly frozen desserts, including pints, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream bars. It’s also easier than ever to find vegan scoops and other options at ice cream shops, including Dairy Queen, Ben & Jerry’s, and Baskin-Robbins.

Why Is Rep. Pallone Failing Animals? PETA Statement

Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo regarding Rep. Frank Pallone’s failure to take action on the FDA Modernization Act 2.0, introduced by Sens. Cory Booker and Rand Paul. This bill passed quickly and without opposition in the U.S. Senate, and it’s critically important, because it would remove the legal requirement to test on animals in the development of new drugs. However, it remains stalled in the U.S. House of Representatives because Pallone hasn’t taken action to place it on the suspension calendar.

Rep. Frank Pallone is a member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, but he’s failing both humans and other animals by refusing to take action on the FDA Modernization Act. An astonishing 95% of new drugs that test safe and effective in animals go on to fail in human trials. Poisoning beagles, monkeys, and mice is not only harming animals but also delaying the development of desperately needed medication. We are deeply troubled that Pallone hasn’t acted, and we urge everyone in New Jersey to call his office as soon as possible and urge him to support this bill.

Note: PETA supports animal rights, opposes all forms of animal exploitation, and provides the public with information about those issues. The group does not directly or indirectly participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office or any political party. Lea Michele Stands Against Horse-Drawn Cruelty in New York Taxi-Top Ads

You don’t need tickets to Funny Girl to see Lea Michele in New York City. That’s because the Broadway star is hitting the streets in can’t-be-missed taxi-top ads calling for an end to horse-drawn carriages. The PETA campaign is in support of a proposed ban on the horse-drawn carriage industry, which causes horses to suffer as they pull oversized loads in heavy traffic and all weather extremes.

“Ryder’s Law,” named for the horse who collapsed on Ninth Avenue this summer, would replace the carriages with eco-friendly electric vehicles. Michele is one of numerous celebrities who are speaking out against the cruelty of the carriage industry, many of whom sprang into action after seeing the footage of Ryder after he collapsed. For over an hour—with no veterinary care—his driver slapped him, whipped him, and screamed at him to get up. Hundreds of millions of people have now seen the horrifying video, and more than 100,500 PETA supporters have petitioned New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams to pass Ryder’s Law.

“Funny Girl’s Lea Michele knows that forcing horses to toil on crowded city streets is no laughing matter,” says PETA Director Ashley Byrne. “PETA is pushing for a ban on horse-drawn carriages and asking compassionate New Yorkers and tourists to say neigh to carriage rides.”

In an exclusive PETA video, Michele exposes the harsh conditions that these overworked horses are subjected to daily—from inhaling exhaust fumes to pounding the hard pavement—leading to respiratory ailments and debilitating injuries. Impatient and careless drivers have also caused multiple incidents in which carriages have been hit, injuring and killing both horses and humans.

Michele’s message will run throughout December, during New York City’s busy holiday season.

Harry Styles, Daisy Ridley, Nicola Peltz Beckham Win National Awards for Animal Advocacy

For promoting meat-free eating, speaking out against cruel animal experiments, and urging fans to adopt animals from shelters, Harry Styles, Daisy Ridley, and Nicola Peltz Beckham are all winners of PETA’s 2022 Libby Awards. “Libby” is short for “liberation”—as in “animal liberation”—and the awards, which are given out by PETA’s youth division, recognize the individuals, brands, and products that go above and beyond for animals.

  • Harry Styles won “Best Viral Moment for Animals” for rejecting a chicken nugget thrown onto the stage during his performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City, telling thousands of screaming fans that he doesn’t eat meat. Each person inspired to go vegan by the superstar will save the lives of nearly 200 animals per year.
  • Daisy Ridley is the winner of “Favorite PETA Collab” for sending a letter to the University of Massachusetts–Amherst calling for an end to useless experiments on marmosets, after learning that the school tormented and killed monkeys it named after Star Wars characters—including Rey, her on-screen alter ego.
  • Nicola Peltz Beckham won “Pawsome Adoption Advocate” for sharing with her 2.7 million followers that she and husband Brooklyn Beckham “adopted our baby today and named her Lamb … I’m so grateful for this love. Please adopt or foster if you can the love it brings to your family is like nothing else.” Fans who follow the Beckhams’ lead will be helping one or more of the estimated 70 million homeless dogs and cats who are struggling to survive in the U.S. on any given day.

“These compassionate celebrities prove that helping animals can be as simple as leaving chickens off their plates, speaking out against cruel experimentation, or adopting from shelters,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “It’s a ‘Sign of the Times’ that these entertainers and influencers are advocating for animals, and PETA is honoring Harry, Daisy, and Nicola for leading by example.”

Other 2022 nominees included Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker, Bella Hadid, the Jonas Brothers, Hailey Bieber, Jimmy Fallon, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Drew Barrymore, and Janel Parrish.
