Cat Safety TKO: UFC Star Irene Aldana Throws Down for Cats and Wildlife in PETA Ad

Renowned Mexican mixed-martial artist Irene Aldana teamed up with PETA for a powerful ad, delivering a compelling message about how imperative it is to keep cats indoors. In this knockout campaign, she emphasizes that cats are integral members of the family and should reside indoors, ensuring their safety while simultaneously protecting wildlife.

Cats left outside are vulnerable to the cold in winter and the heat in summer, and they’re often struck by cars or attacked by other animals or by cruel humans who see them as a “nuisance.” Cats kept safe inside have a life expectancy of 12 to 20 years, but those left to fend for themselves outdoors usually suffer and die in prolonged and/or violent ways before they reach the age of 5.

I can choose my own battles, but cats left outside can’t. They have to fight to survive.”

—Irene Aldana

Leaving cats outdoors also increases their risk of diseases such as feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus (feline AIDS), feline infectious peritonitis, toxoplasmosis, distemper, heartworm, and rabies. Free-roaming cats not only experience trauma but also inflict it. An eye-opening article in The New Yorker explains how roaming outdoors is both dangerous for cats and deadly for the billions of birds and other wildlife—including endangered species—they maim and kill.

Unfortunately, even if responsible cat guardians keep their feline companions safe indoors, countless homeless cats—along with the wild animals they prey upon—still face gruesome fates. The best solution for the companion animal overpopulation crisis is to prevent more from being born in the first place by spaying or neutering.

Be an Animal Defender Today!

Irene’s clear message: The outdoors can be risky for cats and vice versa. To keep everyone protected, cats must stay indoors. If your cat loves to explore, they can do it safely on supervised outings in enclosed spaces while wearing a leash and harness designed for cats or in a catio. Keeping cats indoors with their family not only keeps them safe but also protects wildlife—a win-win for everyone.

Reward Now Up to $9,000 in Phoenix Dog-Burning Case

PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) responsible for burning an elderly dog to death on the morning of March 5. The 16-year-old pit bull–mastiff mix, Duke, was reportedly asleep in his backyard near S. 27th Avenue and W. Van Buren Street when the assailant(s) poured gasoline on him and set him on fire. Due to the severity of his injuries, Duke was euthanized. With funds reportedly raised by other groups, including Silent Witness, an Arizona-based program that shares information about unsolved felony cases, the total reward offered in this case is now up to $9,000.

No leads or suspects have been identified, so PETA is asking for the public’s help. Please share this information; it may be the only way to find the person(s) responsible.

“The agony and terror that Duke must have endured as he was burned alive in his backyard are unimaginable,” says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA asks anyone with information to come forward immediately before the individual responsible hurts or kills someone else.”

Anyone with information related to the case should call Silent Witness at 480-948-6377 (480-WITNESS) for English or 480-837-8446 (480-TESTIGO) for Spanish or submit a tip online at silentwitness.org.

Another Company Bans Glue Traps

After PETA contacted Adams Fairacre Farms and explained that the glue traps its stores were selling torture and slowly kill animals, it agreed to ban and remove them from its shelves! We urge everyone never to buy glue traps, because animals who get stuck to them tear off their fur or skin, break their bones, and even chew off their own limbs in a desperate attempt to escape. Please visit this page to help us urge Ocean State Job Lot to stop selling these vile devices.

‘Wear Your Own Skin!’ Donna D’Errico Celebrates Her Birthday Suit in New PETA Campaign

To celebrate her 56th birthday on March 30, Baywatch actor, model, and outspoken vegan Donna D’Errico is going back to basics in a bold new campaign for PETA urging everyone to stick to wearing one skin—their own—and leave animals in peace and in one piece.

“The reason that I don’t wear any animal products in my wardrobe or shoes or anything like that is just because I don’t want to have animals suffer,” D’Errico says in an accompanying video spot. “They can’t live without their fur, skin, or feathers, but we can.”

PETA entities have released scores of investigations exposing cruelty to animals exploited for clothing. Videos have revealed that workers hit, kick, and mutilate gentle sheep for their wool; leave sensitive goats with bloody, gaping wounds at mohair and cashmere operations; burn, electroshock, beat, and slaughter cows for leather; yank out the feathers of ducks and geese by the fistful for down; and imprison minks and other animals in filthy wire cages on fur factory farms. Fortunately, eco- and animal-friendly vegan materials are widely available at retailers everywhere, and PETA’s “How to Wear Vegan” guide can help anyone make their wardrobe animal-free.

“Choose vegan. Choose kindness,” D’Errico says in conclusion. “And wear your own skin.”

Victory! Adams Fairacre Farms Stops Selling Deadly Glue Traps Following Outreach From PETA

Mouse-shaped vegan chocolates are on the way from PETA to Adams Fairacre Farms in thanks for banning the sale of abhorrent and dangerous glue traps at all its stores. The move follows a push from PETA informing the Hudson Valley–based retailer that the trays coated with a sticky adhesive inflict prolonged suffering on animals.

“By banning glue traps, Adams Fairacre Farms is sparing countless mice, birds, and other small animals a terrifying death,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages everyone to choose kindness by refusing to use these vile devices and to speak up if they spot one on a store shelf.”

Wildlife—including birds, snakes, mice, rats, and squirrels—who get stuck in the adhesive that covers glue traps struggle desperately to escape, sometimes chewing off their own limbs before succumbing to shock, dehydration, asphyxiation, or blood loss. Glue traps fail as a long-term solution because they neglect to address the source of the problem: As long as food remains accessible, more animals will move in to take the place of those who have been killed.

Cities and regions around the world, most recently Ojai and West Hollywood, California, as well as major companies including CVS, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Rite Aid, Target, and Walgreens have banned glue traps after hearing from PETA. The group is now urging Ocean State Job Lot to follow suit.
